Kwee Hui Kian is Assistant Professor of History at the University of Toronto, where she is also affiliated with the Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies. She obtained her BA and MA from National University of Singapore, and Ph.D. (2005) from Leiden University.

Kwee has been a postdoctoral fellow at Asia Research Institute, visiting fellow at National University of Singapore, and research fellow at the Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV).
